Gangway

Gangway was a wartime newspaper for the Royal Canadian Navy’s west coast fleet and shore establishments. It was first published in April 1943.

The 4 issues of Gangway featured here are originally from the collection of William Randall McLean. They were given to Garry Weir of the For Posterity’s Sake project courtesy of Derwyn Crozier-Smith. Garry Weir in turn gave them to the CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum for preservation. We’ve scanned them to make them more widely accessible.

These issues offer an interesting snapshot of wartime RCN ship and personnel activity on the West Coast of Canada. We’re grateful to everyone involved in this effort for making them freely available.
