Some Current Volunteer Opportunities

Accessioning and Cataloguing of Artifacts

Volunteers accept donated items into the museum's collection of artifacts, and research their history. This is an outstanding chance to learn by examining historic objects close-up, and discovering their importance and use. Organizational skills and attention to detail are assets in this position.

Gift Shop Sales and Service

The museum offers a full range of souvenirs in its gift shop, including everything from mugs, pens, pins, and ball caps to new and used books and historical publications. Volunteers are needed to staff the gift shop, answer visitor enquiries, count attendance, and make sales. Some retail and/or cash handling experience required.

Tour Guides

The museum is seeking volunteers interested in providing guided tours of our exhibits and displays.

It is thanks to the efforts of a small group of such volunteers that CFB Esquimalt Naval & Military Museum has been able to expand its tours program in recent years. Thousands of visitors annually, including school groups, cadets and other youth organizations, as well as personnel from the Base community and tourists from home and abroad, benefit from this program.

Confidence, some public speaking ability and a willingness to share knowledge with others in an enthusiastic, informative way are required. Training will be provided for qualified candidates.

Time commitment for volunteer positions described above:
Minimum of 6 hours per week preferred, plus introductory training.
