The museum is engaged in a project to convert, organize, and store its archival collection of naval and military photographs in electronic format. This project, the ‘Archival Photo Scanning Project’, entails the processing of the thousands of photographs in the museum's ever growing archival collection. The effort needed to complete this important project comes, in the largest part, from dedicated and knowledgeable museum volunteers. Some of the subjects in these photographs such as people and naval ships are not always easy to identify. The museum would like to enlist your help with identifying these photographs.
Paul O'Reilly, a retired Canadian Forces Major who served with Canada's navy, is leading the effort to digitalize, identify, and catalogue archival photographs containing naval ships. Most of the mystery photographs, those that cannot be identified, contain naval ships of countries other than Canada. The Mystery Photo ID (Identification) Project is an effort to enlist help with the identification of the photographs from people around the world using the internet.
On this page, and the pages following, you will find digitalized images from those mystery photographs. If you can assist with the identification of any of these images please contact the Mystery Photo ID Project. Important pieces of information are:
